Separation Agreement or Divorce?

We find that some couples aren't certain that they will divorce, but instead want to have a trial separation. A separation agreement may be what they need to cover issues such as:

Attorney Rhyne is adept at not only winning contests for his clients, but helping those clients decide which battles they really want to fight. We keep an eye on the net result.

At The Jonas Law Firm, P.L.L.C., we have a reputation for achieving positive results for our clients. Because of our reputation, it is not uncommon for both spouses to call our office asking for representation. We can only represent one spouse during litigation and always do so to the best of our ability. Attorney Rhyne's experience and training, in addition to his certification, produce results.

Family Law Mediation Attorney

Litigation is not the only method for resolving family law disputes. Collaborative law is a relatively new method of resolving disputes where both parties agree to work with each other outside of court. We also regularly utilize mediation and arbitration.

  • Mediation typically involves three parties — each spouse (and his or her attorney if there is one) and a neutral third-party mediator. The mediator is trained in dispute resolution and will help the spouses make decisions regarding custody, support and division of property. The divorce decree decisions are made outside of court and then a written agreement submitted to the court.
  • Arbitration is usually court ordered and also involves three parties. Each spouse (and his or her attorney) is joined by a neutral third party who has the ability to make decisions that are binding. It is important to have a skilled litigator during arbitration, because there is no second "step" of decision making. The arbitrator will make the final decisions.
